Taylor Swift has invited Nicki Minaj to share a stage with her at the MTV awards after the rapper complained that black women were being ignored in the nominations.

Swift leads the way with nine nominations, including video of the year for Bad Blood, which features her celebrity friends such as Kendrick Lamar, Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, Cara Delevingne and Hailee Steinfeld.

It is also up for best art direction, best direction, best editing and best visual effects at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

Minaj, whose track Anaconda is nominated for best hip-hop video and best female video, complained it had missed out on the video of the year category.

She told fans: "If I was a different 'kind' of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well."

She said: "When the 'other' girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination," adding: "Black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it."

Swift told her: "If I win, please come up with me!! You're invited to any stage I'm ever on."

Miley Cyrus, who won video of the year last year for Wrecking Ball, will host the 2015 VMAs, which will air live on August 30 from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.
