A teacher has been banned from the classroom for at least five years after having an affair with an 18-year-old pupil.

Andrew Little, 28, was a teacher at Thomas Telford School between 2010 and 2012.

A panel found Mr Little had shown 'flagrant disregard' for his responsibilities by sharing a room with the girl and going on holiday with her.

He has 28 days to appeal against the decision.

The panel of the National College for Teaching and Leadership found Mr Little's relationship with the sixth form pupil, who was not named in the ruling, was 'sexually motivated'.

He had travelled on holidays with her to Scotland and Egypt and, while in Scotland, the panel heard they had shared a room.

The panel found Mr Little guilty of 'unacceptable professional conduct'.

It also said it was surprised about the school's handling of the matter because it failed to follow up concerns about the relationship raised by a teacher and a student.

The panel said Mr Little was barred from teaching indefinitely but could appeal for the order to be set aside in five years' time.
