A red-faced teacher accidentally left an insulting message about one of her pupils on his mum's voicemail.
The boy's mother, Ashley Moore, is understandably furious after listening to the less than complimentary voicemail in which the teacher can be heard saying:
"He has no common sense... He was seven in May and he's the biggest baby in my group. She still probably has to wipe his butt."
The teacher, who has not yet been identified, did not realise her comments were being recorded.
She had called Ashley about another matter and didn't stop to check whether the call had disconnected before starting up a conversation with another teacher about Ashley's son.
The teacher has since apologised for her comments, but Ashley says that following the incident her son is reluctant to return to his class at Crestwood Elementary School in Ohio, US.
"He's afraid, he does not want to go back to her," Ashley told WOIO 19 Action News. "The only reason she would be apologising is that she got caught."
Ashley has since enrolled her son in another school and wants a meeting with school district administrators.
District officials have distanced themselves from the teacher's mistake and have responded with the following statement:
"We regret the actions of this teacher. Her actions certainly don't represent the district's philosophy or the partnerships we have with our parents. We know that individuals can become frustrated but there is no excuse for what occurred and the comments this teacher made.
"We apologize for the hardship this caused the student and his family. The teacher regrets what she said and is apologetic. Her actions have been addressed by the district."
