Senator Ted Cruz cooked bacon on the barrel of a “machine gun” on Monday. Why? Because he’s just so gosh-darn Texas isn’t he (and because Republican presidential candidates will do anything to divert attention from GOP frontrunner Donald Trump).
'In Texas, we cook bacon a little differently than most folks'
In perhaps the most maladroit political vignette since Nick Clegg posted his YouTube apology, Cruz is shown firing a M-16 automatic rifle with the barrel wrapped in swine and covered with tin foil.
"There are few things I enjoy more than on weekends cooking breakfast with the family,” Cruz tells the camera, channeling a serial killer. “Of course in Texas, we cook bacon a little differently than most folks," he adds, before eating a slice of greasy pig back.
"Mmmm. Machine-gun bacon," he concludes, laughing like a slain predator about to trigger a nuclear explosion.
The video was released by on the Independent Journal Review, described by MSNBC as a “conservative version of Upworthy” that has also produced viral videos for fellow candidates Ben Carson and Lindsey Graham. The film is the work of IJR creative director Benny Johnson, who was fired from BuzzFeed for plagiarism.
