An 18-year-old dad left his five-month-old baby girl locked in his car on a sweltering hot day so he could go on a date in McDonalds.
Christopher Johnson parked some distance away from the fast-food restaurant where he had arranged to meet the woman.
A member of the public noticed the little girl alone in the car and phoned the police. She was rescued from the vehicle in a 'distressed' state and 'sweating profusely' having been locked inside for 30 minutes.
Christopher Johnson then returned to the car in Sacramento, California, and was arrested. It is not known where the baby's mother was at the time, but the child has now been taken into protective custody.
Police say she has recovered from her ordeal. Johnson is likely to face child neglect charges.
