Karley Sciortino and Adri Murguia (photographed by Michael Abrego above) are about to take over VICE.COM with the second season of Slutever. The creative duo first joined forces with the launch of Sciortino's video version of Slutever, which aired this past April. The highly anticipated new season is twice as much filled with tongue in cheek irreverence and girl power that they graced us with the first time around.
Adri Murguia's Producer/Director work together with Karley Sciortino's writing and online persona enable the creative pair to soar above their individual limitations and evidently, push each other to keep growing and evolving the show into their very own. Combining Murguia's aesthetic directorial strength and curating style (which we've seen in the latest episodes of short profile docs VICE MEETS) together with the writing that has made Sciortino one of the most talked about sex bloggers/writers in the past two years being featured in numerous publications from Purple to Dazed (she just interviewed Azealia Banks for the cover story) and VICE magazine (www.slutever.com) it cannot be denied that these are on the highbrow of young NY talents breaking out of the creative scene, and when combined- there's just no stopping them.
In a current era where the lone professional is acclaimed, it's refreshing to see the dynamics behind a powerhouse duo in the arts. Especially when they're not afraid to push the boundaries- something VICE has always been known for doing, but most importantly, was founded upon. But definitely not by girls, which is why this show continues to surprise us episode after episode.
Season 2 of the show is everything you expected and more. The season kicks off with an episode on S&M for the bedroom, where Sciortino teaches her viewers how to tie up their significant others and beat them around sexually...but most importantly, "safely". For NY Fashion Week, the one and only Sophia Lamar teaches Slutever how to be glamorous, while later on the series she questions "Orgasms- Where R they?"
All meanwhile, poking fun at today's general steoretypes of girls, but not in a Girls HBO sort of way, in a very particular fast paced world where you either have what it takes to catch the pun or not- something Murguia and Sciortino together have been known to propel into the show series, where even a blink of an eye could count for a lost laugh within a larger (and more serious) message which is always delivered at the end of each episode.
These two have created a superhero persona out of VICE's Slutever for modern girls in their twenties by presenting sex in a non intimidating way that is to the point and still hilarious. Not holding back to being brutally cruel and catering to a more intelligent that isn't patronising.
One could go on to talk about this forever, but if you know what's good for you, you'll just tune into this.
On that note- keep your eyes peeled for Slutever which airs every two weeks on VICE.COM from Friday.
