Ken Russell, one of the most flamboyant and controversial directors in British cinema died on Monday, aged 84.
His catalogue of films, which includes Tommy, The Boy Friend, The Devils and the Oscar-winning Women In Love, garnered plenty of fans, as well as criticism for featuring explicit nudity, most notably the wrestling scene between Oliver Reed and Alan Bates in the DH Lawrence adaptation.
On hearing of his death, Russell's friend and colleague Michael Winner paid tribute by saying "he made a unique contribution to British cinema".
