Hassan Hassan was just seven years old when his father was killed by janjaweed - the militia which operates in Darfur, Sudan.
“I remember it exactly. The date was August 15, 2003. I was there, in the house, when they came and killed my father,” Hassan says.
The janjaweed burnt down his village, forcing his mother and surviving siblings to flee to Uganda, and eventually, Canada - where he is now campaigning to bring the Sudan crisis back into the spotlight.
Here, for the first time, Hassan tells his harrowing story.
The Huffington Post UK interviewed Hassan Hassan during the One Young World summit in Ottawa, Canada.
