After a chaotic Voice programme on Saturday evening, Sunday’s results show went a lot more smoothly. And the show does seem to have sped up mercilessly with its eliminations, as the BBC races after the ratings stolen by the live stages of BGT.
It was Jessie and Danny’s turn this weekend to halve their numbers ahead of the semi-finals. “So difficult…” moaned Jessie… again.
From Jessie’s team, only Vince Kidd went straight through on audience vote, meaning Jessie had to choose to keep Becky Hill, Cassius Henry or Toni Warne. And she went for Becky – which evidently came as a surprise to the teenager, particularly after a technical mishmash and a Holly apology for swearing on live family television the evening before. Of such things are rock stars made.
From Danny’s team, it was Bo Bruce who skipped through, leaving the befuddled Irish songster to choose between Max Milner, Aleks Josh and David Julien. The last place in the semi-final went to Max.
While we waited for the results, Leanne and Ruth from Tom’s team belted out Florence + The Machine’s Shake It Out, followed by Tyler James and Jaz Ellington giving us a duet of Police’s Roxanne. All four succeeded in proving Will’s point from his big argument with Danny on Saturday - Jessie and Danny’s contestants have all got their work cut out matching this lot.
The paid-up entertainment came in the form of Paloma Faith – BBC bosses are upping the ante in the next couple of weeks with appearances from Kylie and Cheryl. Which is all very nice, but all they really need to do is repeat the car-crash of Saturday’s show. Unmissable.
This week's contestants in action... any of these got what it takes to be The Voice?
