The 'third person' view that originated with 3D video games like Tomb Raider and Mario 64 has finally been recreated for real with an Oculus Rift.
An Oculus Rift developer working with mepi.pl put together an amazing rig, involving two GoPro cameras hooked up to the virtual reality headset.
The cameras are modified to alter their perspective based on the movements of the wearer's head. They then relay back their images to the headset so the wearer can see himself, from behind, live.
The prototype took just two days to create, but we'll have to see whether it ever becomes anything more than that…
