Some 500 tonnes of fish have washed up on the banks of a Mexican reservoir amid allegations a local firm dumped hundreds of litres of molasses into it.
The fish had been starved of oxygen and died from asphyxiation, Acatlan de Juarez mayor Emeterio Corona told AFP.

While he did not name the firm, he added: “The environment and the sustenance of everybody (in the community) was damaged. What will they live off? I’m outraged. This is a tragedy.”
Some 180 families are reported to live off fishing at the reservoir in Jalisco state, the BBC reports.
