Residents of a Dublin apartment block have been left shocked after an 18-month-old baby fell to her death from a window.
The little girl fell an 'unspecified' height from a flat in the Tolka Valley apartment complex in the Finglas district of the city. The flats, which are situated close to the river Tolka and the Botanic Gardens, are a mixture of rented and privately-owned homes.
The child was rushed to Mater Hospital, but pronounced dead approximately one hour later.
Speaking to Sky News, local councillor John Redmond said the community had been left shocked by the toddler's death.
"It's tragic, just tragic, that such a thing could have happened," he said.
"My sympathies go to the family involved. I have a granddaughter myself and I can only imagine what the family are going through. It's an absolute tragedy."
A Gardai spokesman said they would be investigating the accident.
