Tom Daley has smashed the qualifying round of the men’s Olympic diving 10m platform - finishing first and scoring a personal best.
The 22-year-old is looking to add to the bronze he won in the same event at London four years ago, and his bronze in the synchronised 10m platform he won last week with Dan Goodfellow.
The Plymothian led from the third round and finished with 571.85 points, which included a score of 103.60 from his fourth dive – the highest of the day.
Daley finished ahead of China’s Qiu Bo, who was silver medallist in 2012. Team USA’s David Boudia took the gold.
The semi-final takes place tomorrow (Saturday) at 3pm British time, and the final is at 8.30pm.
Other Team GB divers have also had success in diving events.
Jack Laugher won silver in the men’s 3m springboard and then went one better and came first in the synchronised 3m springboard alongside Chris Mears.
