Tom posted a picture of the newspaper notice with his and Dustin’s matching engagement rings.

He wrote alongside the snap: “#HeSaidYES 💍💍and then #ISaidYES ❤️,” which suggested he got down on bended knee first.

He also thanked fans for their support, adding: “Thanks for all the lovely messages!”

The announcement read: "The engagement is announced between Tom, son of Robert and Debra Daley of Plymouth, and Lance, son of Jeff Bisch of Philadelphia and Anne Bisch of Lake Providence."

Tom’s mum Debbie also told the Plymouth Herald: "The whole family is extremely excited and looking forward to the big day. They are going to wait until after the Olympic Games in Rio before they decide on the date of the wedding and where they want to marry."

The couple have been together for over two years, after meeting in a London nightclub.

News of their relationship came to light following Tom’s decision to come out in a YouTube video in 2013.

The pair recently set up home together in east London to be near the Olympic pool in Stratford, where Tom trains almost daily.

Dustin relocated from the States, where he has enjoyed massive success as a screenwriter, winning an Oscar in 2008 for his film ‘Milk’, and is also a huge LGBT rights activist.
