The British actor, who plays both Kray twins in the new film, quickly shut down a reporter from the LGBT news site, DailyXtra, who left him unimpressed with his line of questioning.

The reporter asked: “In the film, your character Ronnie is very open about his sexuality.

“But given interviews you’ve done in the past, your own sexuality seems a bit more ambiguous. Do you find it hard for celebrities to talk to media about their sexuality?”

A clearly bemused Tom responded: “What on earth are you on about?”

After the journalist repeated his question, Tom asked: “Are you asking me about my sexuality?

“Why?”

Clearly flustered, the reporter began coming up with a response, though Tom interjected, saying simply: “Thank you.”

The reporter had been referring to an interview Tom gave to the gay lifestyle magazine Attitude in 2008, where he admitted he had experimented with men in the past.

He said at the time: “I’ve played with everything and everyone. But I’m not into men sexually. I love the form and the physicality but the gay sex bit does nothing for me.”

While promoting his last film, ‘Max Max: Fury Road’, Tom shut down another reporter, who asked him a sexist question about working with a lot of women on set.
