Yes! There's nothing like a gritty police drama (in any language) and this is a cracker.
Martin Compston and Vicky McClure with Lennie James in Line of Duty
Line of Duty is the story of a police anti-corruption unit circling in around one of their own. And he's not just anyone, either, but DCI Tony Gates (Lennie James), a high-flying black officer with the best clean-up rate of the station, and a big gong for Officer of the Year. And the big fish in a pool of adoring, admiring sycophantic junior policemen.
Except he's a bit casual with his crime figures, and a bit intense with a woman not exactly his wife (a cast-against-type Gina McKee).
Gina McKee with Lennie James - desperate times...
The acting is all-round top quality, with Martin Compston as the young officer unsure of how he's ended up investigating his fellow colleagues, and the narrative fast-paced and twisty - you can expect a lovely one in this first episode - but it all hinges on the palpable charisma of Lennie James, stunning as a desperate man, dangerous when cornered.
