James appeared on Tuesday's 'This Morning'

Speaking on Tuesday's ‘This Morning’, James agreed with host host Phillip Schofield's suggestion that the problems with shooting the new series of the BBC motoring show had been made up.

"That's my theory,” James explained. “To be brutally honest that's what I'd do. I would make out it was all going terribly.

"The picture of Chris supposedly being sick while he was driving a car. Was he being sick? I look a lot more contorted when I'm sick."

Since leaving ‘Top Gear’, James has signed a big money deal to present a new motoring show for Amazon Prime, alongside his old cohorts Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond.

But during the chat with Holly and Phil, he reiterated that he thinks it’s a good thing to have both car shows on air.

"It means the viewers get two car shows when there used to be one,” he explained.

"And then we have a credible rival and we can mock him a bit as well, and that's all telly."

‘Top Gear’ and James’ as yet untitled Amazon Prime motoring show are set to go head-to-head when they both launch in May.
