'Top Gear': Chris Evans Launches ANOTHER Defence Over Viewing Figures

'I've got enough feedback to know that enough people like it and love it, actually.'

Chris Evans has once again defended the new series of 'Top Gear', amid negative reviews and less than impressive ratings.

The host has insisted that people "love" his reincarnation of the BBC Two motoring show, which was previously presented by Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond

Earlier this week, it was revealed the second episode of the new series had lost a third of its audience, drawing just 2.8 million, compared to the 4.3m who tuned in to the launch show.

However, new data later revealed that the first episode attracted closer to nine million, once those who'd watched on catch-up services were taken into account.

He then took to Twitter to call overnight viewing figures "irrelevant", raging: “The way Top Gear is being viewed is repositioning the way television is consumed. Last week 9 millions viewers. This week we shall see.

"Overnight television viewing figures for Top Gear have never been less relevant. Obviously some newspapers prefer to live in the past."

'Top Gear' continues on Sunday 12 June at 8pm on BBC Two.
