Spurs Agree Adebayor Fee

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a transfer fee with Manchester City for the purchase of striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

Adebayor, 27, was loaned out by the Citizens to Real Madrid in the 2010/11 campaign and enjoyed a fruitful temporary spell at White Hart Lane last season.

He scored 18 goals in 37 games, and looks set to become André Villas-Boas' third summer signing, after Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen joined Spurs, subject to agreeing personal terms and a medical.

An additional bonus perhaps for Tottenham fans is that the sale of Adebayor will free up the funds to lure Robin van Persie from Arsenal to City.

The Togo striker, along with the departing Wayne Bridge, together earned over £200,000 a week as unwanted players at the Etihad Stadium. But if Roberto Mancini does oversee Adebayor's sale, with Bridge having since left for Brighton, he may have the leverage to broker a deal for Van Persie.

Juventus has already had an £8m bid rejected for the 28-year-old, while reports continue to suggest Manchester United are monitoring the situation.

Adebayor of course moved to City from Arsenal, and Van Persie could become the fifth Gunner to head north in the last three years, after Kolo Touré, Gaël Clichy and Samir Nasri.

The 27-year-old scored 19 goals in 45 appearances for the Premier League champions in 18 months.
