Donald Trump will make a speech from the White House in the coming hours, despite the outcome of the presidential election not being known.
Speaking to ABC News, former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway said the president would address the nation – but did not specify when.
She said: “You will hear from the president tonight. [...] The president is expected to address the nation later from the East Room of the White House.”
Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s campaign has said in a statement he and Jill Biden will speak at 5.30am GMT.
There is no clear winner in the presidential race as yet with both candidates taking key swing states and others yet to call.
Trump was leading Biden in the vital battleground state of Florida, while other competitive swing states that could help decide the election, including North Carolina, remained up in the air.
The two contenders split the early US states to be projected in the White House race as expected, with conservative states like Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee going to Trump and Democratic-leaning Massachusetts, Vermont, New York and Connecticut going to Biden, according to projections by television networks and Edison Research.
But none of the approximately dozen battleground states that will decide the race had been settled as polls closed in a majority of US states, with close races developing in many of them, Reuters reports.
In Florida, widely seen as a must-win state for Trump in his quest for the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency, Trump was leading Biden 51.2% to 47.8% with 93% of the expected votes counted.
