Swapping the cobbles of Coronation Street for the Rhyl Pavilion Theatre will be a dream come true for Tupele Dorgu when she lines up as Velma Kelly in hit musical, Chicago.

Based on real life events back in the roaring 1920s, nightclub singer Roxie Hart shoots her lover and, along with Cell Block rival double-murderess Velma Kelly, they fight to keep from death row with the help of smooth talking lawyer, Billy Flynn.

Created by John Kander, Fred Ebb and choreographer Bob Fosse, Chicago's score includes All That Jazz and Razzle Dazzle.

Tupele is one of a star studded cast that includes the likes of former Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian who played Becca in the Channel 4 soap, Stefan Booth who was Greg in EastEnders, and Bernie Nolan, lead singer from The Nolans.

"I am a massive fan of Chicago, I've loved the films and theatre productions for as long as I can remember, and I've always wanted the chance to play Velma. It was a very long audition process but when I heard about the role I knew I had to go for it. I'm so happy I've been given this chance. Once I get on that stage as Velma Kelly it will be like a dream come true."

"Velma has got such a strong presence, I love the way she enters through the floor, she's sarcastic, feisty and has some very funny lines. I love to sing and I've been given some amazing numbers and dance routines with Ali (Roxie Hart) who I have been rehearsing with for the last few weeks."

"It's going to be a great performance, they've put together a fantastic show. The cast will be dressed all in black and the band will be playing live on stage with us. The ensemble is very busy too and they all play lots of different roles. It's a colourful show that just bursts into action" she continues.

The former Corrie favourite, who played seamstress Kelly Crabtree for six years, returns to the North Wales coast just a few months after playing the Wicked Queen in seasoned panto, Snow White and the Seven dwarfs, a move that she is aware holds many advantages.

"I had such a good time in the panto run and it will be great to return with a whole new production. At least this time I'll know all the staff, the codes for the doors and I'll certainly know where the kettle is" she laughs.

"The Rhyl audience were amazing during Snow White, they were so enthusiastic and keen. I'll be looking forward to getting back in front of them and performing as one part of the cast of Chicago and I just know they are going to love it."

"I hope they will remember me and give me a nice reception. I hope that anyone who is a fan of the film or if they've seen the musical before to come along and see this production because I promise they will not leave disappointed."
