By now, you’d think Worst Dressed Lists would be a thing of the past, but they still remain an uninvited guest at awards shows.
However, Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan was having none of it after being cruelly named in one tabloid round-up of 2019′s TV Baftas.
The actor, who plays Clare Devlin in the hit Channel 4 sitcom, hit back after The Mirror claimed the dress she wore to the event “was not the most flattering”.
After one fan called out the “vile” paper for “contributing to the persistent degradation of women”, Nicola replied to the story, writing: “I mean incorrect @DailyMirror. I look smokin, sorry about it [sic].”
She then posted a selfie of her at the event, adding: “Here’s another one for you to print.”
But then the mic drop came when Nicola then posted a video of herself in her dress at the afterparty.
“If you would like receipts, I have them, in video form xxx,” she wrote.
Her response was met with widespread support on Twitter:
Derry Girls returned for its second series earlier in 2019, and quickly became Channel 4’s biggest UK comedy launch episode for 15 years when its premiere attracted 3.2 million viewers.
A third series was later confirmed with writer Lisa McGee saying in a statement: “I love writing this show and I’m so thrilled to be able to continue the Derry Girls story, thank you Channel 4, Erin and the eejits live to fight another day!”
