Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a "vulnerable" 82-year-old man who was attacked in his home.

Police were called to Pembury Crescent, Sidcup, south east London, shortly after 4pm on Friday, to a report of an unresponsive man who was pronounced dead at the scene, Scotland Yard said.

He has been named by police as Arthur Walters-Girout who lived at the address.

A post-mortem examination held yesterday at the Princess Royal University Hospital gave the cause of death as a head injury.

Police said two men were arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody at a south London police station.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command led by Detective Chief Inspector Diane Tudway are investigating.

Ms Tudway said: "Mr Walters-Girout, a vulnerable 82-year-old man, was attacked in his home.

"We continue to investigate the motive behind this murder and I would appeal to anyone that knew Mr Walters-Girout, or those that lived in the neighbourhood, to contact police if they remember any suspicious people or cars in the area of Pembury Crescent in the days preceding his death.

"My thoughts are with his family at this difficult time."

Police said next of kin have been informed.
