A ball of light spotted in the skies over Canberra, Australia has UFO and alien fans quite excited.
The strange sighting was seen in video and while skeptics have deemed it a hoax, UFO fans described it as a "craft exiting a portal."
However, an astronomer has batted away suggestions of aliens and Photoshop tinkering.
Speaking to ABC news, Dr. Bradley Tucker said the phenomenon, ball lightning, was most likely responsible.
YouTube user David Tefler gave an alternative explantation saying "...this was a craft exiting a portal," the Daily Mail reported.

According to Tucker however, "...if you get a really interesting occurrence, you create something called 'ball lightning'.
"Normally lightning strikes up and down hitting the ground, but ball lightning is a weird thing where it appears as a ball explosion, sometimes it can even move around in the sky."
The occurrence is largely unexplained and surveys, reported in National Geographic, estimate between one in 30 and one in 150 people seeing ball lightning in action.
In the latest video, the circular illumination appears against a colourful sky that could be mistaken for an aurora.
However, Tucker said the conditions were not right for an aurora.
"An aurora is when energy from the sun hits the earth's atmosphere, the energy rubs the earth's atmosphere with friction and charges the gas," he explained.
"But the problem is there was no activity from the sun, it was cloudy, we can't see the aurora, so it doesn't really fit.
He then confirmed: "I don't think it's aliens," adding that "it's probably not Photoshop either. Everything kind of fits and it seems right."
