UK Weather: Sunshine And High Temperatures As Summer Finally Arrives

Sunday was the hottest day of the year so far with temperatures of over 27 degrees recorded in Heathrow.

Although Monday will be cooler and showers are predicted for Tuesday, forecasters bring the joyful news the heatwave is set to return and last well into July.

Temperatures of around 20 degrees at the beginning of the week will be boosted by high pressure from Thursday with 26 degrees and above expected.

Sunbathers were out in force in parks and on beaches across the country and even the traditionally soggy Glastonbury basked in sun.

The north of the country wasn't as lucky as the south with cloud meaning lower temperatures.

Over the other side of the Atlantic soaring temperatures reached up to 49 degrees in Las Vegas and Phoenix.
