A Ukip member and parliamentary candidate in the 2015 election has prompted outrage over 'despicable' comments he posted on Twitter about drowned Syrian toddler Aylan Kurdi.
Peter Bucklitsch, who got more than 2,500 votes when he stood as a candidate in Wimbledon in May, spoke out about the now-famed 3-year-old refugee on social media.
Aylan died after his parents' plight to reach Greece from Turkey by sea took a heartbreaking turn; him, his brother and mother all died on the risky 10-mile journey.
But Ukip's Bucklitsch, who claims he is an accountant and IT consultant, delivered some cutting commentary on Twitter on Thursday.
Bucklitsch sparked outrage for his remarks on Thursday
He bemoaned the deceased toddler appearing to look "well clothed and well fed", and claimed Aylan's death was the fault of his parents, who were "greedy for the good life in Europe".
Bucklitsch, who stood as a Lib Dem candidate in the 2010 election and garnered 15% of the vote in South Thanet, concluded his migrant muses, adding: "Queue jumping costs."
The post prompted an instant backlash on Twitter, with users lambasting Bucklitsch for his remarks, some attacking him as "evil", others a "charming piece of filth".
One user even posted their own suggested amendments to his tweet.
A Ukip press officer told The Huffington Post UK the issue "had been highlighted" but refused to issue a comment as the party were still trying to track down and speak to Bucklitsch.
