Apple has released a fix for a bug which allows hackers to remotely access its products when they view infected picture files.
If you want to protect yourself from the hack, Apple says now’s the time to update your iPhone, Apple TV and Mac software.
The memory bug enables cybercriminals to run malicious code using jpegs, pdfs and other files.
Apple said that the fix was available in the iOS 10.1 for iPhone 5 and later, iPad 4th generation and later and the iPod touch 6th generation and later, watchOS, macOS and tvOS.
The tech giant described the bug, known as CoreGraphic as “a memory corruption issue” which was “addressed through improved lock state checking”.
Security expert Graham Cluley said: “In simpler language, if you view a maliciously-crafted JPEG graphic (for instance, by browsing a website or opening an email) on a vulnerable iOS device, you could be allowing malicious code to execute.
“That’s a nasty security bug, and now Apple has released a patch there will be surely be some criminal hackers who are interested in seeing if they can find a way of exploiting it.”
