The alkaline diet has become one of the biggest eating trends of recent years and thanks to its celebrity following (Victoria Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston are all fans) it's often described as the A-list's secret to staying slim.

The go-to alkaline recipe book? It's Natasha Corrett and Vicki Edgson's Honestly Healthy and after its recent success, a follow-up edition - Honestly Healthy For Life - is launching this spring.

There are over 100 new recipes in the latest book and yes, they are mostly fruit and vegetable-heavy. Acid-forming foods such as pasta, meat dairy are kept to a minimum as the alkaline diet follows a vegetarian approach. (The aim of eating alkaline foods is to keep the body's pH somewhere between 7.35 and 7.45.)

However - pumpkin and orange risotto, baked spiced aubergine and sticky-toffee pudding don't sound too bad, do they? The recipes have been formulated to improve mood, boost energy, aid digestion and reduce bloating too. No wonder Mrs Beckham loves them so much.

"I love this healthy eating book," she said at the start of the year. So now we know what David cooks her when she gets home from work...

Honestly Healthy For Life is available in hardback form 31 March 2014, £25.
