Actor Jeremy Irvine was subjected to such bad conditions filming Steven Spielberg's new filmWar Horse, he developed trench foot.
The 20-year-old, who was picked out of obscurity for a lead part in the war epic, was forced to shoot in "appalling weather" as Spielberg was unable to delay filming the scenes.
Irvine threw himself into the role and spent so much time in the cold, damp weather he developed the nasty condition, which was common among soldiers battling in the First World War.
He tells Hollywood Reporter magazine, "As soon as your big woollen uniform gets wet, the weight is unbelievable. You'd be running across no man's land, right through the mud.
"There would be sequences where explosions would take place next to me and three or four stuntmen would fly through the air and then there would be other scenes where you're just soaking wet.
"I got trench foot. The soldiers used to get it all the time."
