An engineer has died at Waterloo Station on Wednesday morning as he carried out work on a moving walkway.

British Transport Police (BTP) are investigating the death, which is not thought to be suspicious.

A London Ambulance Spokesperson said: “We were called today at 2.23am to reports of an incident at Waterloo Road, SE1.

“We dispatched a number of resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a medic in a response car, a team leader, an advanced paramedic and our hazardous area response team (HART). We also sent London’s Air Ambulance.

“Sadly, despite the efforts of medics, a man died at the scene.”

Shortly before 5.30am, Transport for London (TfL) advised passengers they would be unable to change lines at the station because of a fault with one of the two travelators.

Later on, the official Jubilee Line Twitter account advised passengers that a one-way system had been implemented at the station due to an ongoing police investigation, with customers advised to avoid the interchange where possible.

A TfL spokesperson said: “We are working with colleagues in the British Transport Police following an incident at Waterloo station in the early hours of this morning. An investigation is underway.”
