Jakarta Terror Attacks Sees Indonesia Unite To Share Powerful #KamiTidakTakut Message

Indonesians Unite To Share Powerful Message In The Face Of Terror Attacks

The Indonesian capital of Jakarta was thrown into chaos on Thursday as terrorists launched a brutal wave of bomb and gun attacks across the city.

Seven people are reported to have been killed in scenes horribly familiar to those witnessed in Paris late last year.

Despite the horror, social media instantly provided a platform for those hoping to drown out the sounds of violence with an undeniable message of defiance.

The hashtag #KamiTidakTakut translates as "We Are Not Afraid" and is being widely shared across twitter.

Six bombs are reported to have gone off in Jakarta with sporadic gunfire heard for hours afterwards.

One explosion was at a Starbucks cafe, the windows of which were clearly blown out. Security forces were later seen entering the building.

A photographer for Reuters said: "The Starbucks cafe windows are blown out. I see three dead people on the road. There has been a lull in the shooting but someone is on the roof of the building and police are aiming their guns at him."

So far no-one has claimed responsibility for the attacks but a police spokesman, Anton Charliyan, told reporters a threat from Islamic State had previously been received.
