Paper cuts may be tiny, but they sure hurt like hell.
According to the Buzz60 video above, the reason for this is because paper cuts aren’t clean slices.
Instead of cutting your finger like a knife, paper operates more like a jagged saw, ripping and shredding through your skin.
Ouch.
According to Dr Hayley Goldbach, a resident physician in dermatology at University of California, Los Angeles, paper cuts are also painful because of our nerve endings.
Our fingers are packed with more pain receptors than almost any other part of our body.
“It would probably also hurt a lot if you got a paper cut in your face or in your genitals,” she adds.
Paper cuts aren’t deep, but that’s also part of the problem. Larger wounds that bleed produce blood clots, protecting the open sore from outside elements. In comparison, paper cuts are exposed to all air and bacteria, causing them to sting for longer.
The moral of the story is, always turn pages slowly to protect your fingers (or genitals) from paper cuts.
They’re plain nasty.
