Why Students Should Blog For The Huffington Post UK

Why You Should Blog For HuffPost UK
|

Do you fancy having your say alongside Arianna Huffington, Paul McCartney, David Beckham, Kay Burley, Ricky Gervais, and David Cameron, to name a few?

Well, presuming the answer's yes, then you should blog on The Huffington Post UK.

Every student journalist will know the key to landing a job in the industry is building up a portfolio and, more recently, an online presence.

But, as everyone has most likely already told you, competition for work experience, particularly in the journalism sector, is fierce. And the majority of internships on offer are unpaid, meaning thousands of applicants are automatically shut out.

At HuffPost UK, we can give you a platform, completely free, to start a conversation. Not only can you link to your Twitter account, but you can link to any blogs or websites you already have, as well as creating a bio for yourself.

And, even if you're not a budding journalist, we'd still love to have you. Head over to HuffPost Students to check out our student bloggers for some inspiration.

It's a way to get yourself noticed - by a potential 5m UK readers and 50m worldwide readers, might we add.

There must be a catch, you're probably thinking. Well actually, no there's not. You can blog just the once, or you can blog once a week, once a month or once a year - we don't set deadlines or tell you what to write. You own what you write, so you can post your work wherever you like and what you upload to us doesn't have to be exclusive to HuffPost, you can cross post entries from your own blog, for example.

So what are you waiting for?

We recommend posts are between 500-800 words and please make sure your language is engaging, accessible and reader friendly. Posts need to be in the first person, heavily opinion led and preferably with a UK angle. Basically, we reckon the most passionate or topical blogs are the best – we won’t run anything too press release-y, pluggy or B2B, or anything that’s being used for SEO/link/marketing purposes. Our blogs are all about starting conversations!

We won’t change a word of what is written other than for typos or legal issues. And they can be cross-posted to your own blogs, or even be an existing, already published blog post from your own personal blog though please bear in mind we won’t run anything that’s been published for more than a few days.

Once you’ve put together the first blog post that you wish to be hosted on the Huffington Post, send it over to ukblogteam@huffingtonpost.com and they will take it from there.

We're looking forward to hopefully welcoming you on board!
