The Duke of Cambridge has presented Father Christmas with Prince George’s festive wishlist – a police car.

As William’s two-day trip to Finland came to an end, he met Santa Claus and showed him his son’s handwritten note, which requested the toy vehicle as a present.

The second-in-line to the throne pulled the letter from his suit jacket pocket during the encounter at a Christmas market in Helsinki.

As he handed it to Father Christmas, he said: “I’ve seen you and I had to give you this letter.”

William added laughing: “He hasn’t written down many requests, so I think one request is probably ok.”

Santa scrutinised the form, which had been filled in by the future king and began with the printed words: “Dear Father Christmas this year I have been naughty/nice.”

George had circled ‘nice’ and written in large script “police car”. He also wrote his name at the bottom.

Proud dad William pointed to the word ‘nice’ and pleaded his son’s case, saying: “But he’s been a nice boy, a nice boy.”

Santa, who traditionally is from Finland, nodded his head in agreement and the duke smiled again.

It was thought George was obsessed with helicopters, following William’s former job as air ambulance helicopter pilot.

But it now seems top of George’s list, for the little four-year-old boy who could be granted his heart’s desire, is a model of a police car he must see regularly.

Before meeting Father Christmas, William went on a walkabout in a nearby park meeting hundreds of well-wishers who braved freezing conditions to meet the royal visitor.

The duke spent time shaking hands, chatting to people and joking with the crowds as he slowly made his way down the line of people.

After meeting the man every child dreams about in the run up to Christmas, William and his entourage were offered glasses of mulled wine and ginger biscuits in the shape of reindeer.

The duke chatted to Santa and asked him “Have you come all the way from Lapland?” and “It’s a busy time for you”.

William’s two-day visit to the home of Father Christmas came to an end when he met members of Finland’s air force at Helsinki airport where military aircraft were on display.
