If you’re partial to a tipple, look away now, for these were the terrible scenes which closed a major Canadian road for ten hours.
A truck loaded with thousands of bottles of wine collided with another vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway in British Columbia on Wednesday night, the Vancouver Sun reports.
The driver of the wine truck has been charged with driving without care and attention, CTV News reveals.
Terrible scenes: Thousands of smashed bottles of wine lie strewn across the road
All gone: The lorry shed its entire load in the accident
What a terrible, terrible waste.
In terms of tragedy, this is right up there with that time a lorry transporting jars of Branston Pickle crashed just a mile away from the village of Cheddar in October.
The irony of the incident was not lost on one resident, who told the Western Daily Press: "It’s a shame about the lorry, but we were close to seeing the ultimate serving of Cheddar and pickle.”
