A woman and a child have died after a multi-vehicle crash which led to seven other people receiving medical treatment.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said an off-duty nurse was the first person to treat the injured after the accident on the A5 near Weston Park in Staffordshire.
Community first responders, four land ambulances and two air ambulances also attended after the emergency services were alerted at about 2.20pm.
An ambulance service spokesman said: "One vehicle had overturned in the crash and unfortunately it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save a woman and a girl travelling in that car.
"They were sadly confirmed dead at the scene."
A man travelling in the overturned vehicle suffered serious pelvic injuries and was airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital.
Six others received treatment for less serious injuries, including a man in his 40s who was taken to hospital in Telford with a shoulder injury.
