A woman who falsely claimed she was burgled and raped is expected to be sentenced.

Wendy Wilson, 61, told Norfolk Police she had been the victim of a violent attack at her home in King's Lynn.

She had claimed two men broke in, raped and assaulted her, leaving her unconscious in the supposed incident just before Christmas 2013.

Wilson admitted perverting the course of justice and fraud by false representation at Norwich Crown Court at an earlier hearing.

A force spokesman said: "Officers from the Norfolk and Suffolk major investigation team conducted detailed inquiries including comprehensive house-to-house and forensic work.

"However, as forensic, witness and financial inquiries progressed, officers began to question Wilson's version of events.

"Initially, she had not reported anything stolen or damaged during the incident but was subsequently found to have attempted to claim more than £6,000 from her insurers."

She will return to court for a sentencing hearing on Tuesday.
