Throwing a paper airplane is one of those thing everyone thinks they can do - but no matter how confident you are about your paper plane-throwing abilities, there's no way you're as good as Joe Ayoob here.

The one-time college quarterback for the University of California, Berkeley, 27-year-old Ayoob didn't make it into the professional leagues, instead turning his attention to something entirely different: paper plane throwing.

His change in tack has proved most fruitful after he smashed the Guinness World Record for longest distance travelled by a thrown paper plane, adding around 6m to the previous record with a grand total of 69.14m now in the record books.

As you'll see from the video footage above, his stunning throw nearly ran out of room in the McClellan Air Force Base near Sacramento, California where his attempt took place.

Ayoob shouldn't get all the credit, of course - the man behind the paper plane design goes by the name of John Collins (aka 'The Paper Airplane Guy'), and it's his nouse that helped the exceptionally aerodynamic piece of folded paper float for so long.
