Every day, women around the world spend many hours walking long distances to collect clean water and provide supplies for their families.

In fact, a shocking 750 million people globally - approximately one in nine people - lack access to safe water and acceptable sanitation.

As a result, many in the developing world are struggling to attend school or earn a decent income and many are suffering from water related disease.

It is because of this that Stella Artois has recently partnered with Water.org and its co-founders Matt Damon and Gary White to highlight the challenges of water scarcity in the developing world and help provide a practical solution.

Our 'Buy a Lady a Drink' campaign aims to raise awareness and help reduce the barriers to accessing clean water for families in the developing world.

Why support water? As a key ingredient in our beers, water is a natural resource which AB InBev aims to protect and preserve.

We have a long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship, including water conservation and watershed protection through a range of Better World initiatives.

To mark the start of the campaign, Stella Artois made a donation of $1.2 million to Water.org and is now inviting others to join the cause by purchasing limited-edition Chalices with unique designs by artists from Ethiopia, Honduras and India - three of the countries in which Water.org operates.

A single Chalice purchased will help Water.org provide five years of clean water to one person in the developing world.

World Water Day provides an opportunity to re-focus attention on these important issues, and Stella Artois has launched a bespoke advert across the Channel 4 television network to encourage consumers to take action and make a difference to the lives of those currently suffering from a lack of access to this basic necessity.

With access to clean water, prospects for women and their families improve drastically - giving them more time to spend together, the chance to generate incomes, attend school and live without the trials associated with a lack of sanitation.
