View From The Window At Le Gras was taken in 1826 by by photography pioneer Nicéphore Niépce at his estate in France.
It has just gone on display at the Reiss-Engelhorn museumin Mannheim, Germany as the pride of their new show The Birth Of Photography.
How it looks today
The shot is believed to have been taken using a camera obscura and was the result of washing dried bitumen with lavender oil after an eight-hour exposure period.
View From The Window At Le Gras is on loan from The University Of Texas who allowed 'The First Photograph' to travel to Europe for the first time in 50 years.
