X Factor: Christopher From Liverpool Stuns Audience, With Bette Midler's 'The Rose' For His Granddad

X FACTOR: Christopher Stuns Audience, Singing For Granddad

X Factor's fourth week audition show was stolen by an unconfident customer services manager singing for the memory of his late grandfather.

34-year-old Christopher from Liverpool told the judges how he'd been filling in the application form to sing on the show for five years, but had always ripped it up before.

Christopher finally got up the nerve to sing Bette Midler's song The Rose, which was the song played at his grandfather's funeral. His grandmother came on stage afterwards, while the judges voiced their admiration for his talents.

Gary asked, "How the hell have you kept that voice hidden until now?" while guest judge Geri Halliwell told him, "You're going to be a star."

Other acts this weekend included Vietnamese teenage student Jason, who first professed his love for 'Tulisha'...

And there were the It Girls, dance school students from Birmingham with the courage to sing the Spice Girls' song Stop! in front of the judges including former Ginger Spice herself Geri Halliwell. She pronounced herself impressed...

The contestant with most to prove this week was Melanie, who made it as far as the judge's house round last year, when she visited Kelly Rowland's mansion in Miami. Incredibly upset not to go further in the competition, she came back this year to demonstrate how her voice had improved... and the judges were in agreement.
