The former call centre worker lost out to Italian powerhouse, Andrea Faustini, in the sing-off when his rendition of 'This Is The Moment' from the 'Jekyll and Hyde' musical failed to win over judges Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Mel B and Louis Walsh.

Andrea Faustini found himself in the bottom two with Stevi Ritchie

Unsurprisingly, his mentor, Simon Cowell chose to save him, saying: "Stevi for me, you were the one who showed the most passion in that.

"You realised you weren't the best singer. You've been great fun and a great entertainer. Plus the people have really fallen in love with. I'm going to stick by my Stevi."

Andrea, who has been the hot favourite to win this year's series, looked shocked to find himself in the bottom two, but his version of Sam Brown's 'Stop' was enough to save him.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini insisted she loved both acts but stuck with Andrea, describing him as "one of the most perfect singers we've had ever on the X Factor".

Speaking after his exit, Stevi - who re-entered the ITV show as a wildcard in the Overs category - said: "Do you know what - the whole experience for me has been an absolute dream. I mean, I never would have thought I would get this far ever.

"I just want to thank all the general public at home for keeping me in and voting each week ... I want to thank all the production staff, the producers and all that, they work so hard. You, Dermot [O'Leary], and all the lovely judges...

"And my best friend, and mentor, Simon Cowell."

Stevi is the second act to leave the competition this weekend as part of a double elimination after Only The Young were eliminated on Saturday night's show.
