So there we have it. The first live show of X Factor has been and gone. The judges were predictably pen-stabbing, overawed, encouraging and snippy in equal measure.
The finalists had their debut turn in front of the judges and a live audience for the first time, with varying levels of success, and eyeliner.
Tulisa Contostavlos and Gary Barlow had the first judging fisticuffs of the series when Barlow dared to criticise her boyband Nu-Vibe, for being "five soloists instead of a band".
The much-heralded “twist” for the first show didn’t really send the shivers down the viewers’ spines, purely that, in a change to the usual form of competition, the judges will each have to send home one of their own contestants, without the viewers getting a say at this stage. So that means four acts are going home this time tomorrow, a major cull in a series running to Christmas - some surprise returns, anyone?
