Yahoo! is not alone among internet giants for incorporating awkward punctuation into their logos (*cough* Aol. *cough*) - but until now it was one of the only companies with a 'registered' symbol in there too.
The 'R' symbol (®) has been a part of Yahoo's brand since it launched in 1995.
No more.
New CEO Marissa Mayer has taken a new staffer's suggestion and removed the registered trademark symbol from the Yahoo logo.
Posting an image of one of the lost 'R's on Instagram, she said:
"One of our new Yahoo!s Andrew was really bugged by the registered trademark symbol at the end of our logo; he's gone on a mission removing all the R's from our site and our campus. This is one on the random R's we pulled off a wall :)"
Later, on Twitter, she added:
Below is the offending logo, complete with 'R' - don't expect to see it for much longer.
