"If you don't go to university you are setting yourself up for failure" - does this sound familiar?
I have reached that point in my life where college is coming to an end and I have to decide what's next? I am lucky - I know exactly what I want to do and it doesn't involve going to university.
Don't get me wrong, I think going to university is great if that is what you really want to do. But there are other options out there which I don't think are given as much consideration as it's not deemed to be a successful path.

Being an entrepreneur and starting your own business is a very real alternative - but I know it can be quite a daunting prospect and it's not for everyone.
I think people are aware that there are other choices aside from going to university - like apprenticeships etc - but there is a real fear that if you don't go to university you will automatically fail which is just not the case at all.
Entrepreneurship is a massive talking point just now and there is more support out there for businesses than ever before. If you believe in your idea and have the drive and passion to make it success I think you need to take that leap of faith. Taking risks is so important in business.
At school, going to university seemed like the sensible option but as I, and the business, has grown it has become more apparent to me that going into further education just isn't going to work for me.
I have built up a business from my bedroom while still being at school and college full time. The workload is manageable as I have learned how to balance both quite well. But this year especially I have become slightly impatient - I want the freedom to take my business to the next level, really push myself and see where it can go. If I were to go to university, I would be restricted and that's not what I want.
I would say to people not to rush when deciding what to do with your future - if you need to take a year to figure out your next step don't feel pressured not to do that. And don't go to university just because people expect you to.
Ultimately, decide what makes you happy and go from there.
