This week marks 57 years since the birth of commercial video recorders - and while most of the world has largely abandoned the technology, not everyone has forgotten about it.
Including YouTube.
The Google-owned video sharing site has today added a "tape mode" to certain videos in its archive, allowing you to recreate the feeling of watching a videotape - with all the fuzz, whirring and unreliable picture quality that entails.
YouTube said it had launched the new mode in celebration of the Ampex VRX-1000, the first VCR which debuted in 1956.
In a blog post YouTube said:
"Not too long ago, the video tape was the media of choice for living rooms around the world. In celebration of the 57th birthday of the first commercial video cassette recorder, check out a fun VHS mode for the YouTube player to relive the magic feel of vintage video tapes.
On select videos, you'll find a VHS button in the bottom right of the player--just click to turn back the clock and enjoy the static and fuzzy motion of the VHS era."
