Newly-appointed Miss Great Britain Deone Robertson has spoken out, after former ‘Love Island’ contestant Zara Holland was stripped of her title.
Zara discovered that she had been de-crowned last week, following a dalliance with one of her fellow contestants on the ITV2 reality show.
Runner-up Deone has since been announced as her replacement, admitting she supports the organisation’s decision to take Zara’s title.
She told The Mirror she “saw it coming”, explaining: “We are supposed to be role models for young girls and represent our chosen charities - she knew this.
Deone continued: “Some say [pageant rules] are outdated but at the end of the day, rules are rules and you have to stick to them.
At the time, the Miss GB organisation made it clear they had “no problem with sex”, but insisted: “We simply can’t condone what happened on national TV.”
Since Zara had her title taken away, almost 10,000 people have signed a petition with the hope that the pageant will reinstate her.
Zara left ‘Love Island’ over the weekend, after learning that her mum had taken ill, with producers leaving the door open for her return, should she wish to come back later in the series.
