Zlatan Ibrahimović may not have been able to make the World Cup, but that didn't stop him from paying to send Sweden's intellectually disabled team to the INAS World Cup in Brazil.
Although the squad, known as "The Unknown Team", qualified for the tournament they could not afford the £30,000 to travel to South America.
Ibrahimović "wanted to do everything in my power to help them to experience the World Cup"
Kim Källström and Johan Elmander stepped in and donated boots and shirts to be auctioned off, but then Ibrahimović paid the required fee.
"Football should be played by anyone, regardless of gender, disability or not," Ibrahimović said on the Swedish FA's website. "And when we missed the World Cup, I was deeply disappointed, but when I heard about 'The Unknown Team' I said to myself that I wanted to do everything in my power to help them to experience the World Cup. There was nothing to think about. Now I get to experience the World Cup through them."
