Alice Pulford

Co-Founder of Love Support Unite, Sister, World Lover and Brighton Marathon trainee

Love Support Unite developed from the work Nina and Alice Pulford began in 2009 with the formation of Tilinanu, an orphange set up by the sisters in order to house and educate young girls of Lilongwe, Malawi. Recognising the wider opportunities to provide much-needed support and further development projects within the Lilongwe area, Love Support Unite was created.

Love Support Unite continues to support and sustain Tilinanu through fundraising and the sale of products such as the insanely cool Love Specs, available to buy at Topman online. The organisation also continues to place skilled volunteers in individually developed programs, whilst simultaneously developing and executing outreach projects in and around the Lilongwe area.

The Love Support Unite journey began back in 2007 when 17-year-old Alice, not really sure of what to do with her life, decided to spend her gap year teaching English in Lilongwe. After experiencing the lack of education and resources available Alice realised how lucky she was to have had her own education and pledged to do what she could to make a difference to the people of Malawi.

Alice returned to Lilongwe in 2009 when she met Mercy Mkandawire, who had been running a feeding programme for over 400 children and made it her mission to support the children of the village – many of whom had been orphaned due to the Aids epidemic. With money that
had been raised back home in Leicestershire, The Pulford family and the Mkandawire family were able to build Tilinanu, a home for many of these children. All the while Alice worked towards and gained a degree in Child Development. The Tilinanu Orphanage opened on August 29th 2009.
