Alison Thompson

Author, speaker and ADHD parenting coach

In 2003 my son was diagnosed with ADHD after his first permanent school exclusion at the age of six. He's now 18 and life has been one long fight to get him the support he needs to navigate the school system and society's prejudices about this common disability.

I wrote about our story in my book The Boy From Hell: Life with a Child with ADHD. Although of course my son is not actually "the boy from hell", there were times when he put me through hell, and he has described living with ADHD as being hellish.

After publishing the book I trained as a coach and I now specialise in working with parents and teachers to help children with ADHD and related disabilities to fulfil their potential.

And in my day job, I masquerade as The Proof Fairy, helping people to share their personal stories through self-publishing. Everyone has a story in them and technology now enables us all to become authors.

I also have a big interest in refugee right, politics, football, literature, food, music and motorsport!
